The Madison
Historical Society sponsors programs devoted to specific areas of
Madison’s history in depth such as genealogy, photo restoration, and local
industry or recreation.
We also work closely with area schools to provide tours of the museum and
other programs on local history.
Past programs
| “ Who gets
Grandma’s pie plate” ? ( use picture of pie plate? )
Across the generations, objects have meanings and carry history. Passing
on personal possessions is not always easy. This program by Cora French
Robinson taught how to distribute items fairly both legally and sensitively.
|
| “Buried
Treasures - The Stories of the Stones”
The stones and monuments in a cemetery
hint at what was a vibrant, dynamic life of an individual.
This exciting tour through three local cemeteries included 35 costumed
re-enactors representing the heroes, villains, and ordinary folk who share
the stories of their triumphs, failures, hardship and humor!
|
| “ Restoring
Precious Old Family Photographs”
This program by local photographer, Eileen Findak, demonstrated the
techniques used to restore these irreplaceable family heirlooms.
|
|
“Architecture in Madison”
Madison has the largest collection of historic homes in Lake County. This
informative program included slides of selected homes with their history
told by costumed re-enactors.
|
| “Madison
Student Art Display”
This event featured drawings of historic Madison buildings done by local
Madison school students. The pictures were judged by local artist,
Dolly Craft, and winning entries were printed and published in a 2006
calendar. Click on the gift shop link to find out how to buy one of these
calendars while supplies last!
